Beating the Admissions Odds

Colleges and universities around the nation reported record applications, and record-low acceptance rates, again this year. Many experts believe this new paradigm reflects the ease of using the Common Application.
Harvard’s acceptance rate for the Class of 2015 was 6.17 percent, setting a new record low.
While there’s no getting around the surge in college applications, there are ways for savvy students to improve their admissions odds.

1) Be a Legacy
2) Be a Recruited Athlete
3) Apply Early
4) Demonstrate Interest
5) Excel on the SAT & ACT
6) Differentiate Yourself
7) Perfect Your Essays
8) Check Your Application for Accuracy and Consistency
9) Proofread Your Application
10) Don’t Slack Off During Senior Year
11) Take Interviews Seriously
