1) Plan for all four years and not just for your Freshman year
2) File the FAFSA – utilize the new IRS interface to make this process easier
3) Be careful about taking out loans – remember that you will have to re-pay them
4) Brain power still pays – institutional merit scholarships do not have to be repaid
5) Think creatively – earn money by working at the college, college credits from AP tests make graduation time shorter, start at a local college and transfer to your dream school after 2 years
