About Us

About us……

From the beginningHope Phillips, Genie Mize and Jean Flowers joined together in August of 2008 to form College Resource Center, LLC in hopes of providing a service to help alleviate the stress and offer help with the college search process.  Prior to opening our business, we spent months doing research, attending classes, visiting colleges and affiliating with various interest groups (SACAC and IECA). Even though Genie and Hope have moved on, their knowledge, compassion and expertise is still embedded in our company values.

Jean Flowers  was educated in the Durham City Public Schools, received her B.A. degree in Education from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, and began her career as a Financial Aid Officer at the Atlanta College of Medical and Dental Associates. She later moved to Columbus and did some post graduate studies in counseling at GA State (Ft. Benning). Jean retired after 18 years with Greystone Properties.

Jean has served as the past chair of District PTSA Legislative Committee for Muscogee County, Past President of the Columbus High School PTSA, former School Council member, Past President of the Columbus High Magnet Booster Club and the Columbus High Tennis Booster Club. Jean worked on a collaborative effort with PTSA and staff to develop the College Bound Committee and handbook for Columbus High School. In addition, she was a member of the Vote Yes Committee for local SPLOST referendum 2003 and 2009 and was a member of Muscogee County SPLOST Citizens’ Committee (appointed by local school board), a past member of the Committee for the Board of Distinction Process and a partner with the FAFSA Project for the Muscogee County School District. She was also appointed to serve as a member of the Council Districting Commission. Currently Jean serves as a founding member of the community support foundation of the Rainey-McCullers School of the Arts.

Jean is married to George, and they have three children and four grandchildren: Ellie, a graduate of Auburn University and CSU (Masters); Robert, a graduate of Davidson College, Masters in Divinity from Duke University and graduate of Mercer Medical School; and George, a graduate of Furman University and Campbell University Law School.

*Jean maintains membership in SACAC (Southern Association of College Admission Counselors) and is a professional member of IECA (Independent Educational Consultants Association).

We continue to visit colleges and boarding schools on a regular basis….having visited over 70 campuses thus far. In addition we attend regular conferences and zoom sessions to stay abreast of the constant changes in the college admissions climate.
