Tips from college admissions counselors:
1. Know your competition – Understand the college acceptance rates and remember that when applications rise, so does the bar for admittance.
2. Stand out – Good grades and board scores are essential but they aren’t the total package… participate, volunteer, work and show commitment.
3. Do your homework before writing your essay – The essay should be personal and not generic. This is how they see your personality.
4. Make an immediate impression when being interviewed – Again, personality is key.
