“Have you ever considered taking some time off before going to college?”
It’s a question that comes up with surprising frequency as students grapple with their post-high school options. And, while the questioner seems to be seeking validation around the idea, there is often an implied and even deeper concern about how colleges themselves might regard such a strategy.
The College Resource Center can help families through this decision- making process. For more information, contact us through www.crccolumbusga.com or 706-366-2993.

Is is important to visit the colleges you are accepted to before you make your final decision May 1st. Even better, spend a night in the dorm and go to a class! Many colleges actually have an accepted students weekend which has it all scheduled for you. In addition, many colleges have Fall Open Houses so be sure to look for these events on the college websites.

1) Keep the audience in mind when writing your essay
2) Realize the reader will probably spend 1 minute on your essay so get their
attention early
3) Make sure the reader learns something about you that he or she would not learn
from your application
4) Tell a story, don’t write a resume
5) Try to “connect” to the reader
