College Transfers

Transfers
In a 2010 report of the National Association for College Admission Counseling, not all colleges provide merit aid for transfer students.  Actually, only twenty-three percent do.  Of those colleges that do provide aid, it is often less than the original amount.  This is often true for students transferring in January when most aid has already been given out.  Transfer students need to ask about housing options, as on-campus housing may not be guaranteed.  If offered by the school, students should attend transfer orientation as early as possible to maximize housing options.

Summer Interships / Shadowing Opportunities

Summer

If you are one of the many students who were not able to find a summer job this year… here is an idea.  Look for a company that will allow you to intern or shadow someone free of charge.  If you can find a position that you are interested in pursuing in college, that is even better.  This will not only build your resume but it will allow you to learn “first hand” about a particular profession.  Many employers end up hiring interns to be a part of their team, they have already been able to “test” your abilities.

If you do intern, shadow or work this summer remember these important tips:

1) Don’t text while on the job

2) Ask for work if you find yourself sitting around, this shows initiative

3) Stay away from office gossip
