Seniors: Thanksgiving break is a great time to complete your application essays. Here are a few tips:

Uncategorized

– let the college see who you are by writing an essay that sounds like you. Keeping your voice in the essay is how the admissions’ committee will know you wrote the essay.

– write something about yourself even if it is optional. If you leave this section blank, you are telling the admission counselor that you have nothing worth sharing about yourself.

– have someone proofread your essay for careless errors.
– plan ahead and take the time to write multiple drafts of your essay. You must have time for revision.
– remember that the admissions’ counselor may cross-reference your essay with your SAT writing sample. If your essay is overly polished, you are increasing your likelihood that someone may do this.
– keep the reader’s attention by devoting enough time to your essay. Assume yours will be read around midnight after the admission’s counselor has read 20 other essays.
